McLaren Customer Racing has spent years making the case that the 720S belongs at the front. The results are building.
// 01 — THE CAR
The McLaren 720S GT3 EVO uses the M840T 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 producing around 530 bhp. Its mid-engine layout gives the 720S distinctive balance characteristics: very neutral, technically demanding, and rewarding for experienced drivers who can exploit its aerodynamic efficiency.
The EVO brings revised aerodynamics and suspension geometry over the original specification, developed with Garage 59 — the primary European customer team — based on multiple seasons of race data.
// 02 — THE RECORD
The 720S GT3 has shown its pace in concentrated bursts rather than consistent championship dominance, reflecting the car's demanding setup requirements. At its best — in the hands of experienced pairings with deep knowledge of the platform — it is a race-winner.
Garage 59 in Europe and Inception Racing at endurance events have produced the car's strongest results, including podiums at GTWCE rounds and strong performances at the Spa 24 Hours.
// 03 — WHERE THEY RACE
The 720S GT3 EVO competes primarily in GTWCE Sprint and Endurance, the IGTC, and British GT — a natural home for a British manufacturer. McLaren Customer Racing also supports entries in IMSA and selected Asian championships.
The European programme, centred on Garage 59 and Inception Racing, represents the front of McLaren's GT3 effort.
// 04 — THE PROGRAMME
McLaren Customer Racing works closely with a smaller number of teams rather than supporting a very large customer fleet. The teams at the centre of the programme receive genuine factory engagement.
That concentration of resource has helped the car develop faster than a more widely distributed model would have allowed — quality over quantity is McLaren's explicit approach to customer racing.
